Bruna Sofia Simoes
Reny Jacob Reji
David is a strategy and operations expert who has been helping organizations to streamline their end-to-end operations while enhancing the customer experience for more than 20 years. David founded The Burnie Group in 2011 to help organizations dramatically improve their operations. It has since become one of the fastest-growing management consulting firms in Canada. Prior to founding The Burnie Group David spent eight years at McKinsey & Company where he was a leader in McKinsey’s North American Operations and Retail practices. He also served as Director of Marketing and Sales at Grocery Gateway.com and was an Account Executive at Proctor & Gamble.
David’s experience includes: Corporate strategy, lean process redesign, performance management, post-merger integration, workforce management and leading transformational change. David has worked extensively in banking, insurance, telecommunications and retail in areas including back office, contact centre, branch/store operations and shared services.
David received his Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the London Business School, where he graduated with distinction, and earned his Honours Business Administration degree from the Richard Ivey School of Business at Western University with Dean’s List honours. David is a supporter of the Fort York Food Bank, and an avid athlete. He was an All Canadian and Academic All Canadian while playing football for the National Championship winning Western Mustangs, and was later drafted by the CFL's Hamilton Tiger Cats.
Darshan is an operations excellence guru, and he's been helping clients around the world increase profits for over 15 years. He served as Vice President at Active Operations Management, working with senior executives to dramatically transform management methods and business culture for organizations including Bank of Montreal, Harris Bancorp, Barclays and TD Canada Trust. He was also Director, Analytics Practice for the Advisory Services Group at Experian, where he built significant operational efficiencies for clients around the world.
Darshan's experience includes: In-depth consulting for back-office operations, business analytics, workforce management, process optimization, productivity improvement, leading transformational change, and most importantly, motivating people.
Darshan earned his Master of Business Administration (MBA) at McGill University, received a certificate in International Management at the Stockholm School of Economics, and received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Toronto. In his time away from work, Darshan leads his family and friends on remote wilderness canoe trips, where high winds, rapids, snakes and bears help him to recharge between client engagements!
Hugh has over 20 years experience working in technology, management consulting and analytics roles, always with a focus on improving customer operations and marketing. He has a lengthy track record of holding influential positions and developing successful business strategies. Prior to joining The Burnie Group, Hugh founded his own practice, Client Lens Group. He has run customer analytics and database marketing departments at Nielsen and Telus, worked as a consultant at McKinsey & Company, and has led applications, infrastructure and Project Management departments at EDS.
Hugh's experience includes: Management consulting, marketing, building customer loyalty, automation, analytics and performance management, and technology strategy.
Hugh earned his Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the London Business School, where he focused on Private Equity and Venture Capital Finance and Strategy. He also holds a Project Management Professional (PMP) designation. Hugh is a devoted husband and proud father of two boys. He enjoys hockey, soccer, the violin, and has a variety of personal technology interests including web and mobile application development.
Douglas is a blockchain and strategy expert who has been working in the information technology industry for over 25 years. With roles ranging from technical engineering, enterprise sales, standards definition and administration, consultancy and worldwide strategy, Douglas has defined his career as a leader, mentor, and advisor who excels in fostering E and C suite relationships and helping individuals and organizations succeed in a world of accelerated change.
Douglas is the co-founder of CueContext, a mobile software solution that builds context adaptive mobile solutions for the zoo Industry, a member of the Board of Directors at MaRS Innovation and a former executive at IBM. With a passion for productivity, Douglas’ experience includes developing strategy solutions, optimizing client operations and technology, and driving innovation and change.
Douglas earned his Masters in International Economic and Social Administration at Universite Pierre Mendes and his Bachelor degree in Political Studies from Queen’s University. Outside of work Douglas is an avid traveler who enjoys reading, camping, and playing guitar. Douglas is also an advocate for green building tech, and volunteers regularly to help the homeless and at-risk youth.
Alexey is a strategy and operations expert, with unique, hands-on experience building and running online businesses. He's been consulting for over 10 years, helping clients to develop target operating models, re-design their processes and inform their strategies through benchmarking and performance management. Alexey is the CEO and Co-Founder of InsurEye, one of the leading Canadian consumer review platforms for insurance. He spent 5+ years as Project Leader at The Boston Consulting Group, and worked as Internal Consultant for Process and Project Management for Daimler Chrysler.
Alexey's experience includes: Developing business and operations strategies, re-designing processes across different industries, identifying and driving efficiencies, creating performance management solutions for Operations space, creating and executing benchmarks (Contact Centres, Multi-Channel), developing B2B and B2C online monetization models, assessing and evaluating global megatrends.
Alexey received his Master of Business Administration (MBA) at Collège des Ingénieurs, where he focused on 'Strategy and Management of Technology,' and earned his Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Munich. Alexey speaks five languages and spends his time away from work travelling, playing table tennis and braving the slopes Alpine skiing.

Timothy is a management development and operations specialist. He has over 15 years of experience working as a consultant to large multi-channel organizations and high growth businesses, developing solutions that increase the efficiency, speed, cost and scalability of their processes. He specializes in helping clients define their strategic priorities and translate them into the culture, management and day-to-day actions that support revenue growth. Timothy was previously an Associate Principal at Partners in Performance, Interim CFO and Vice President of Strategy at Achievers and an Associate at McKinsey & Company. Tim is also the founder of a results-oriented management development firm: Cognatio.

Timothy earned a Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.) degree in Systems Design Engineering (First Class Honours) and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Speech Communication at the University of Waterloo. Outside of work, he enjoys golf, sailing, cooking, studying applied psychology and supporting a number of charities and local non-profit organizations.
Kunal Alagh joins The Burnie Group with over 13 years’ experience in consulting, analytics and automation practices. His core capabilities include planning, implementing and promoting strategies with Advanced Applications, managing Process Automation, Real Time Solutions, Voice and Text Analytics across multiple industries. Over most of the last decade, Kunal has been assisting Fortune 100 companies, evangelizing Big Data, and solving complex business challenges.
Kunal’s experience includes: Contact center consulting, customer success management, automation and analytics strategy building.
Kunal has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Delhi University, and an MBA from NMIMS. Outside of work Kunal enjoys spending time with his family. He has been an avid traveller, and the globe has never seemed enough.
David has been designing and implementing business intelligence and analytics solutions for nearly 20 years. As a Business Intelligence Architect for Assiduo Solutions, David designs and implements analytical solutions for clients including BMO Financial Group, TD Bank, and Brookfield Global Integrated Services. Previously, he was a Consultant for Bain & Company. Now, David brings a wealth of business and technical expertise to The Burnie Group, helping clients make their business performance transparent.
David's experience includes: Straddling the business and technical sides of data and analytics projects, defining business operating models, and integrating the best available data using highly efficient tools.
David earned a PhD and an MPhil at the University of Cambridge, and an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree at McGill University. David enjoys current events, learning new languages, sailing and travelling.
Astrid has been developing and implementing breakout growth strategies for financial services and healthcare organizations for over 15 years. She is the Founder and Principal of StratMaven LLC, a strategy and deal-advisory consultancy that focuses on financial services, healthcare and technology. Prior to founding her own firm, Astrid was Senior Director, Market Planning for the Property Insurance Division of LexisNexis Risk Solutions and was part of the senior management team that launched LexisNexis Healthcare Division. Astrid was formerly a management consultant at The Boston Consulting Group, and started her career executing investment transactions at the International Finance Corporation, the private sector investment arm of the World Bank Group.
Astrid's experience includes: Corporate and business unit strategy; new product development; and M&A.
Astrid earned her Master of Business Administration (MBA) at Harvard Business School, where she was a Baker Scholar (among the top 5% of the graduating class). She earned her Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Engineering Management and Science from Stanford University and received her Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Miami. Astrid is fluent in English and French. She lives in Miami, Florida and enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter and pursuing hobbies including cooking, reading, travelling and running half-marathons for charity.
MaryKate is a healthcare business management specialist who has been working with life science leaders for over 20 years. She is an expert at creating and executing go-to-market commercialization strategies for healthcare organizations, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and technology companies. She has driven cardiology, immunology, respiratory, endocrinology, oncology, nephrology, dermatology and other therapeutic projects. MaryKate was an Associate Principal at McKinsey & Company, and Brand Manager at Procter & Gamble.
MaryKate's experience includes: Strategic business planning, creating market-shaping campaigns, brand building, digital integration, capitalizing on customer insights, and market/channel expansion.
MaryKate earned her Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Honours Business Administration (HBA) degrees at the Richard Ivey School of Business at Western University. MaryKate is an Adjunct Professor with the MBA program at University of Southern California and sits on the board of several health organizations. She loves technology and published her own application software in Apple's App Store. She is a Certified Sommelier, loves sharing a glass of wine, is an active philanthropist and enjoys spending time with her husband in Maine and Florida.
Ghalib is a strategy and organizational change expert. He has been consulting for over 15 years working with senior executives successfully drive transformational business change. Ghalib is also the founder and Managing Director of Sambi Advisors, a boutique management consulting firm specializing in executive leadership. Previously, Ghalib served in senior management roles within the consulting practices at KPMG and Capgemini/Ernst & Young. He started his career in telecommunications working at Nortel Networks and at Corvis, an optical networking start-up.
Ghalib's experience includes: business strategy, organizational change management, executive alignment and business performance improvement.
Ghalib earned an MBA from the Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario as well as a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Systems Design Engineering at the University of Waterloo. Ghalib is a mentor for technology entrepreneurs through Futurpreneur Canada (formerly CYBF) where he has mentored a clean-tech start-up as well as an online retail start-up.
John is a seasoned Business Development professional with 20+ years experience in targeting and nurturing relationships in the management consulting and solutions industry. John’s strong knowledge base in this field comes from long term roles at Carpedia International, The Gurza Group of Companies, and Thomson-Rogers Law Firm where he held roles involving business development, sales, prospecting, and strategic analysis.
John earned his BA from the University of Western Ontario, and his LLB from University College in Cardiff Wales. While not at work John enjoys spending time with his daughter and golfing. He’s also an avid sports enthusiast who manages an active sports blog. An active member of his community, John makes time for causes that are near to him, recently acting as Co-Chair of the 500 Miles for Parkinsons walk.
Bruna Sofia Simoes
As a project manager Bruna has extensive experience consulting with smaller not-for-profits on the development and roll-out of digital and print communications strategies to better engage their constituent base and strengthen their brand experience. Prior to joining the Burnie Group, Bruna held roles in event management and communications at Save the Children Canada, managed the communications portfolio for Arrowsmith Program, and worked as the National Marketing Communications Manager at CHW.
Bruna’s experience includes: marketing, event planning, project management, social and digital media management, graphic design, and public relations.
Bruna earned her Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Toronto. Outside of work Bruna enjoys adventure travelling, hiking with her dog, baking and knitting. Bruna is also a board member and fundraiser for a number of non-profit organizations.
Isha is a Human Resources professional with a specialization in IT recruiting practices. She has experience working with government and private sector clients conducting full recruitment cycles to ensure the placement of highly qualified professionals. Before joining The Burnie Group, she worked in Talent and Acquisition for CSI Consulting Inc.
Isha’s experience includes: recruitment, onboarding, and people/relationship management.
Isha earned her Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Toronto. When not at work, Isha enjoys reading, movies, and spending time with her family.
Bret is a financial services industry expert with 10+ years of experience helping clients improve sales, operational performance and customer service. Bret boasts a long pedigree working for TD Wealth Financial Planning, holding influential positions including Manager of Business Process and Programs, Senior Business Analyst, and Financial Planning Associate.
Bret's experience includes: Consulting for high profile clients, sales, customer service, business analysis, project management, system design, operational process improvement, risk management and leadership.
Bret earned his education in Business Analysis from the University of Toronto, his post-graduate diploma in Financial Planning from Sheridan College (CFP, CSC, CPH), and an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree (graduated with distinction) from the University of Guelph. In his time away from work, Bret fundraises for the JDRF Ride for Diabetes, enjoys fantasy hockey pool leagues, reading, concerts, camping, fishing and playing guitar, and he's also a charcoal/pencil sketching and oil painting artist.
Jenya is an industrial engineer with expertise in analysis, process improvement and project management and has experience in the healthcare and aviation sectors. She has worked as a Quality Improvement Decision Support Technical Lead for the Association of Family Health Teams of Ontario and as a Project Coordinator, Business Analyst and Research Analyst for several projects at OntarioMD. Most recently, she was a Pricing and Optimization Analyst in revenue management at Porter Airlines.
Jenya's experience includes: Healthcare system, IT, aviation, academic research and publication, operations research, applied mathematics, business analysis, project management and process improvement.
Jenya earned her Master of Applied Science and Bachelor of Applied Science degrees at the University of Toronto. Her academic research on optimization of radiosurgery treatment has been published in TOP, the official journal of the Spanish Society of Statistics and Operations Research. When not at work, Jenya writes and publishes her poetry and fiction, plays guitar, builds and rides bicycles, builds robots and runs half marathons.
Manpreet is a seasoned IT engineer with expertise in process improvement, business analysis, software development and project management. Prior to joining The Burnie Group, Manpreet worked in the assisted living/long-term care sector leading a software team in developing software architecture for life-critical systems.
Manpreet’s experience includes: project management, analysis, and both sides of outsourced software development in the finance, healthcare and government sectors.
Manpreet earned his Master of Science from Illinois State University, and a Bachelor of Engineering from Rajiv Gandhi University. In his personal time, Manpreet enjoys learning new technologies, soccer and finding cool new music.
Lokesh is an IT professional with expertise in automation and development. Most recently, Lokesh was a Sr. Automation developer who worked in System Integration Quality Analysis in the insurance sector. Lokesh’s experience includes: IT consulting, production and quality support management, defect management, release management, training and coordination with onshore and offshore teams, and extensive leadership experience. Lokesh earned his Master in Computer Science with a specialization in Multi-Agent simulation from the University of Windsor, and his Bachelor of Engineering from Rajiv Gandhi Prodyogiki Vishwavidyalaya. During his studies, he worked with the archaeological department of the University of Washington and Crow Canyon Center on village ecodynamics project, the project was a multidisciplinary collaboration between various institutes across the US and Canada and funded by the National Science Foundation. In his free time, Lokesh likes to cook, play guitar, sketch and learn about new technologies.
Adam is an operations expert, having implemented process improvement strategies in large-scale supply chain and retail organizations. He's worked as a Business Analyst for Target Canada, and as a Project Assistant at BlackBerry.
Adam's experience includes: Analyzing business operations from the ground up, including retail and supply chain environments, and interpreting analytics to improve processes.
Adam earned an Honours Degree in Business Administration from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario. He plays the piano and guitar, he's an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan, and enjoys camping in his free time.
Shane is a process improvement specialist. He worked as Development Coordinator for Trinity College at the University of Toronto, and as a Communications Analyst for Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP.
Shane's experience includes: Working with complex data, analytical thinking, and people/relationship management.
Shane earned a Bachelor's degree in Management and Organizational Studies at the University of Western Ontario. He volunteers his time at Evangel House to help the homeless, and has also been active with the Canadian Cancer Society Relay for Life, and as Co-Head Coordinator for the Annual Austen Berlet Campout for Mental Health. Shane enjoys reading, downhill/heli-skiing, swimming, and chess.
Karen is an industrial engineer with expertise in business analysis, process improvement and project management. Prior to joining The Burnie Group, Karen worked as a Senior Decision Support Analyst for the University Health Network. She has also held various engineering roles at Estée Lauder, Sanofi Pasteur and Maple Leaf Consumer Foods.
Karen’s experience includes: data analysis, project management, healthcare informatics, as well as process improvement projects in the cosmetic, pharmaceutical and food industries.
Karen earned a Bachelor of Applied Science degree from the University of Toronto. She is passionate about world travel and learning about different cultures. Outside of work, Karen enjoys Zumba, swimming, kayaking and treasure hunting at flea markets.
Andrew specializes in business information analysis. He has worked with clients across North America to analyze business needs, implement operations software and improve business processes. Prior to joining The Burnie group Andrew worked in analyst roles at Building Envelope Software Technologies and JD Irving.
Andrew's experience includes: Software program integration, hardware implementations, gap analysis, business process reporting, and analysis of logical processes and data/business workflows.
Andrew earned a Bachelor of Computer Science (BCS) degree with Honours from the University of New Brunswick where he was President of the Student Union, President of the Computer Science Association, and Business Manager for the Brunswickan Student Newspaper. In his spare time, Andrew plays hockey, tennis, curling and kickball. He's also a musician and plays a variety of instruments including guitar, bass, and box drum. Andrew also regularly volunteers to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis treatment and research.
Tom is a seasoned industrial engineer with expertise in IT and business analysis and has experience in both the oil and manufacturing industries. Excelling in particular at motivating, developing and training people, leading change management, and increasing profits and customer satisfaction for my clients/company.
Tom’s experience includes an in-depth understanding in the areas of industrial operations, statistical process control and optimization, productivity improvement, workforce training, and management.
Tom earned his Master of Applied Science at Memorial University, and his Bachelor degree in Chemical Engineering at Covenant University. When not at work, Tom enjoys reading, travelling, and football (“soccer”).
Veroljub is an experienced process engineer leading successful transformational business change. He has expertise in project management for automation and productivity. Prior to joining The Burnie Group, Veroljub held roles at Toyota, in Mining Consulting, Johnson & Johnson and Gay Lea Foods. Veroljub’s experience includes: Process Engineering, Data Analytics, Modelling, Strong Statistical knowledge KPI dashboards, and the Toyota Production System. Veroljub earned his Honours Bachelor of Applied Science from the University of Waterloo. When not at work, Veroljub enjoys travelling and experiencing different cultures through their cuisine. He is also an avid home brewer and loves keeping active by playing basketball.
Tania is a process optimization expert. Prior to joining The Burnie Group she worked as a Commercial Manager for Rilab, and as a Client Relationship Manager for Private Wealth Partners.
Tania’s experience includes: international experience in financial services and industrial goods. She is passionate about efficiency, learning, leading and motivating people, sales management, marketing strategy, process optimization, training, and change implementation.
Tania earned her Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University, and a Master of International Business and Law from the University of Sydney. When not at work, Tania is an avid volunteer for LATAM startups, enjoys scuba diving, reading, doing crosswords, and learning new languages.
Madison specializes in business information analysis. She has a diverse background understanding corporate business needs, implementing operations initiatives and business process improvement. Prior to joining the Burnie Group Madison held roles at HBC, Rogers Communications, Gluckstein Design and New York Fashion Week.
Madison’s experience includes: consumer insights, relationship management, creative problem solving and project management.
Madison is a graduate of Western University with a degree in Business Management with a specialization in Consumer Behaviour and a Minor in Psychology. In her spare time, Madison enjoys playing golf, tennis, being close to the lake, and is on a quest for Toronto’s best burger.
Reny Jacob Reji
Reny is an experienced electrical engineer with expertise in business transformation in the food and beverages industry. Prior to joining The Burnie Group Reny worked as a Business Analyst for Infosys Ltd., developing a common global IT process platform.
Reny’s experience includes: implementing business transformation programs, project management, and business analysis.
Reny earned his Masters in Engineering Management from the University of Ottawa and a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from Anna University. When he’s not at work, Reny enjoys long road trips and adventure sports like white water rafting and scuba diving.
Robin is an experienced electronics engineer with expertise in business transformation in the Oil and Gas industry. Robin has worked as a Software Engineer for Accenture, interned with Honeywell Building Solutions and most recently as a Service Engineer for Al Essa Medical and Scientific Instruments Company.
Robin’s experience includes: software engineering, robotic process automation, business analysis, engineering management, customer service, and project management.
Robin earned his Masters in Engineering Management from the University of Ottawa and a Bachelor of Electronics and Communication Engineering from Karunya University. On his free time, Robin enjoys playing the guitar, taking in a game of table tennis, and exploring new parts of the city.
Darren specializes in operations analysis. He has a diverse background in data-driven insight having worked extensively in both small and large teams researching, collaborating, and analyzing key information to facilitate client deliverables. Prior to joining The Burnie Group, Darren held roles at MasterCard Advisors, and Deloitte Canada.
Darren’s experience includes: management consulting, financial advisory, business development, finance modelling, research and analysis.
Darren earned his Honours Bachelor of Commerce from Queen’s University. Outside of work Darren enjoys travelling and spending time outdoors. He has spent a semester abroad living in Hong Kong, is an avid backpacker, and recently completed a 24-day trek to Mount Everest Base Camp. Beyond travel, Darren enjoys playing sports, camping, and is a fan of the Toronto Raptors.
Michael is a financial and business services expert. Prior to joining The Burnie Group, he worked in various capacities in banking and investment operations with RBC and Gryphon Investment. Michael’s experience includes: extensive experience in financial services, business analysis, data analysis, and investment strategy. Michael earned an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration with a Finance Specialization from Wilfrid Laurier University. In his personal time, Michael enjoys playing and watching sports, reading for business and pleasure, and mentoring/tutoring students in math.
